It was noticed by many that while there were excellent cavy rescue organizations and breeders throughout Michigan, they were scattered all over the internet and very difficult to find. Each one had their own obscure site displaying their available guinea pigs, but hardly received enough traffic to be able to be able adopt many out. That is where MichiganCavyRescue.com came along. We have compiled breeders, shelters, and individual owners from all over the state into one great place where it is fast and easy to find a suitable guinea pig in your area. With the click of a button you can find the perfect piggy to welcome into your family and into your heart.

How do I help support MCR?
Donations to Michigan Cavy Rescue are always welcome, and we have an account set up for those who wish to make donations to the organization here. We also have a store set up at with Michigan Cavy Rescue items for sale. You not only get great and affordable merchandise, but it also promotes and supports Michigan Cavy Rescue.
Where does the money go?
Every dime that MCR receives goes right back into the organization to further help our cause. A portion of the donations go to the care and upkeep of the website so that we can continue to allow people to find homes for their guinea pigs. This includes better programs, web-hosting, advertisements, etc. We also donate money to a different rescue shelter each month that cares for cavies. The reason we do this is to help them out with the cost of taking care of the animals they have, because many take care of these animals out of thieri own pocket. We here at Michigan Cavy Rescue feel it is important to help out whenever there is an animal in need and try to do so in any way we can. Some other things we do with the money that comes in are:
- Funds to travel to various places (shows/fairs/rescues) to advertise
- Flyers, businesscards, newspaper ads
- Space at different cavy-related functions (booth fee)
- Shipping our cavy related items
- New games and activities for our website
- Hosting annual “Piggie Pignic”
- Much much more!
How exactly does it work?
An ad of the adoptable guinea pig will be placed in our search section where people will be able to quickly and easily find it. Once a prospective adoptor finds a guinea pig they are interested in, they will then contact the owner of the guinea pig through e-mail (or phone, if they prefer.) Once they have contacted the current owner, it is completely up to the discretion of the owner to allow the guinea pig to be placed in the care the prospective adoptor.
